One of my favorite things about living in DC is seeing the cherry blossoms!
The long story short, Japan gifted 2000 cherry trees to the US in August 1909, but they were infested with insects after their long journey and had to be burnt. In 1912, Japan donated even more trees, this time 3,020 trees. On March 27, 1912, US First Lady Helen Herron Taft and Viscountess Chinda, wife of the Japanese ambassador at the time, planted the first two of these trees at the Tidal Basin by the National Mall. In 1915, the US responded giving Japan dogwood trees.
Many years later, after much rain, sunshine and tender loving care, the cherry blossoms bloom each spring in DC, attracting thousands to the city.
I’m matching the cherry blossoms in an old floral top from Loft, last styled on the blog here. I’ve picked out similar floral tops below, but you can still shop my exact AEO distressed denim, Forever 21 circle bag, and Express heeled sandals.
